After a long and arduous procurement exercise, Kapiti Coast District Council have appointed Living Energy as supplier for the new wood-fired boiler for their Paraparaumu sewage treatment plant.
Selected from a wide field of boiler suppliers, Kapiti Coast District Council clearly recognised the robustness and operational flexibility of Living Energy's Binder boiler solution when selecting a technology provider for the high-demand application at the plant. The boiler, a highly-specified
Binder SRF-S step-grate combustion system, will be one of the highest duty boilers in New Zealand, with anticipated annual run hours of 8,540. This is equivalent to an availability level in excess of 97%
Capable of burning woodchip, agricultural by-products and food processing residues with moisture levels as high as 55%, the Binder boiler is perfectly suited to the demanding task ahead of it at Paraparaumu. Working in partnership with local construction companies and suppliers, Living Energy will be responsible for the construction of the new boiler house and fuel store - which is capable of holding around 230 cubic metres of fuel - and for the installation and commissioning of the high temperature hot water boiler.
Managing Director, Rob Mallinson said :
"This is a great result for Living Energy, and for the Council,
who will save hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in energy costs at the site. For us, this project is a sound endorsement of the Binder boiler system, which is customisable to the needs of almost any client. Binder's extremely heavy duty construction, and world-leading engineering and design team enable us to specify a product that both Living Energy and our clients can be confident will run and run on even the most problematic of fuels."Construction work will begin on the site in December, with the project due for completion around the middle of 2010.
